Heart and Hope
1h 15m
Eight months after the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis, as the Minnesota Orchestra continues to reckon with the racial injustice in our community, this heartfelt concert opens with reflective music by Philip Herbert. His Elegy: In Memoriam—Stephen Lawrence remembers another life tragically lost to racial violence in 1993.
Then, two longtime friends and colleagues, oboist John Snow and violinist Peter McGuire, share an intimate musical dialogue in a double concerto by Bach. Dvořák’s Serenade for Winds, conducted by Music Director Osmo Vänskä, guides us out of January in an optimistic and hopeful frame of mind.
