German conductor Marc Albrecht makes his Minnesota Orchestra debut in a program that highlights the unpredictable. Opening with Joel Thompson’s powerful In Response to the Madness, the program also features a magical trio for flute, bassoon and harp composed in 1986 by Miguel del Aguila and concludes with Robert Schumann’s stormy Symphony No. 4. Pianist Jon Kimura Parker, the Minnesota Orchestra’s creative partner for summer programming, is showcased in Dmitri Shostakovich’s sparkling First Piano Concerto, a work that also features the Orchestra’s Principal Trumpet Manny Laureano. Each piece represents something uncharacteristic or unexpected from its composer, highlighting the incredible things that can come when comfort zones are stretched.
