Celebrating Pride marks the end of an extraordinary first season with Music Director Thomas Søndergärd and month-long Pride festivities here in Minneapolis and around the country.
The Minnesota Orchestra celebrates Pride with music by composers from the LGBTQ+ community, curated by Music Director Thomas Søndergärd. The program begins with Ethyl Smyth’s On The Cliffs of Cornall. Then Pianists Christina and Michelle Naughton perform Francis Poulenc’s Concerto in D minor for Two Pianos and Orchestra, followed by an encore of Jennifer Higdon’s Jumble Dancing composed for the identical twin sisters.
Host Ariana Kim talks with Minnesota Orchestra cellist Sonia Mantell and Andi Otto, Executive Director of Twin Cities Pride. And in an intermission video, Principal Viola Rebecca Albers and violists Sam Bergman and Jude Park share personal stories and insights about the Pride concert. The Pride celebration culminates with the fireworks of Tchaikovsky’s Fourth Symphony. Chad Goodman guest conducts the 2023-2024 Season Finale.
